About the Night:
We aim to make this the biggest old school gothic rock party, every week at Sudsy Malone's.
Dance, see, hear, and experience the best of new and old gothic rock.
Dj Cass, Dj Myke, Live Bands, Contests, Prizes, Special Drinks, Art Showings, Chaos, Sillyness, and more - this is not just a Dance night.
This is a very ambitious gothic night in its early stages, but growing strong. We have spent a lot of time and money this week discussing, revising, seeking talent, buying things, and developing new ways to make this night the biggest anbd most unusual it can be.
$3 - ages 21 and up $5 - ages 18 to 20
Church News - the most up to date news and events will always be posted on sudsy's message board
New developments. I know I said before I wasn't in charge of the night. Well, after tonight's meeting, I am now in charge of the night.
I regret seeing Alisa go, she worked very very hard to get this night started, wanted this night badly, and is now moving on to other things. We wish her the best of luck.
Changes, including features that have now been made concrete
Look forward to drink specials, special events, and random surprises in large quantities. Changes in decor will happen gradually, but they will happen regularly. We want to make this a fun night, with every week bringing something new, unusual, and unexpected.
Reverend Cass and Reverend Myke (moi) will be your Djs for the night, Unitarian certification pending, so nevermind the reverend part for the time being... it just has a nice ring to it.
Rock City will be setting up shop at Sudsy's on this night with discounted prices for Sudsy's Patrons.
Book Signings (Eric Adams, Author of 'Lackluster World' will be setting up a booth in the near future - shirts, posters, comics, and more available. This happens July 31st.
Cd signings, Cd Release Parties, and shops set up by record labels and bands spun at Sudsy's.
Contests and Prizes are in the works... we have a few ideas - most of them not wrong enough for the night, some too much so to seriously consider.
The stage area has room for 7 tables and 21 chairs, providing seating other than the bar for people who like to watch the dance floor. We can do this immediately.
The Sound booth is moving back 12 feet, and actually becoming a booth. This will take a few weeks to do most likely, though we could surprise ourselves. I am crossing my fingers... not now, because I am typing, but most times.
Downstairs - We are not going to mess with that at the moment. When the turnout is too much for one floor, we will open the second.
Cass and I have aquired a decent dual CD deck, and a lot more CDs - Shake it Records gave us a special deal. More music, and when we have practiced a bit more with the dual deck, less DJ fouls. We had one Dj foul last week BTW... not a bad start.
Apologies
The Bar is taking a nice chunk of the door, at our request, in order to put that money back into building on this night. Our primary goal is making this night work, for you, and for the bar.
So that the bar can eventually make its money without this, and build to the point where this is no longer necessary... thereby enabling us to break even on our investments, Cass and I really need drinking age people - we love you guys. Sorry if the difference in covers seems discriminatory, but the bar makes no money off of 20 and under otherwise. Turnout may change this. We would love to see a time very soon when we can drop cover prices on all sides, and are trying to think of ways to do this.
If you continue to provide the great turnout, and especially the drinking turnout, we will continue to make this night better and better for you in every way we can imagine. We will take other stabs at discounts and benefits, Ladie's Nights, Guy's Nights, Free Pool, Drink Specials, gifts, door prizes, and whatever we can think of.
That said, we tried hard to find a way to provide free drinks to 21 and up, from making the flyer a coupon for this, to making it for all people 21 and up, to making it for 21 and up people who brought CDs in with them. The problem being that advertising free drinks for any reason, coupons included, will get the bar in trouble.
We are building our collection quickly, as of last week have plenty of music to run this night off of and building, but would love to play your requests. Since my list of decent gothic bands, active and inactive spans thousands of band names, meaning tens of thousands of CDs - we would still recommend that you bring your request or a copy of your requests in with you for the time being, as we definitely cannot have everything.
Format
This night is for everyone, but especially for those who have been dying to make it to a gothic club or hear more gothic music in the format. It may sound pretentious, it may be, at least as much as a friendly and fun goth night with friendly and fun goth staff and friendly and fun goth patrons can be. No velvet rope, but proper dress is encouraged, because it puts both regulars and newbies at ease, and preserves the feel of the night. Please drop in regardless - we don't bite, much.
I will provide the gothic music - gothic rock, gothic post-punk, horror punk, deathrock, psychobilly, etc, new and old obscure to introduce patrons to new things as Djs should.
Cass will provide the dark electronica, gothic - industrial, darkwave ebm, darkly-driven synthpop, gothic ambient, medieval, and gothic trip-hop, along with gothic classics and staples to keep the music familiar.
Dress Code
There is no current dress code, other than the obvious no wearing of gang colors, baggy pants, or things disrespectful to our ethnically and culturally diverse patrons and staff.
That said, we would appreciate it if you goth the fuck out in a serious manner. Cass and I are stuck at the booth, and need decent eye candy. This also adds to the mood and atmosphere of the night. It also makes the regulars more comfortable, and it will make you more comfortable in our surroundings. Most of us don't go to work dressed in fishnets and stripes, you will feel and do much much better here not arriving in khakis and ball caps. Treat this night like a theme party, dress spooky, dress naked if you are easy on the eyes (mostly... health codes insist that genitalia and nipples be covered by 'something' - fishnet/electric tape those nipples please).
